Prescribe Difflam™ for a wide range of sore throat and mouth conditions, including: 1-3

  • Pharyngitis
  • Traumatic conditions such as tonsillitis and tonsillectomy 
  • Post-operative sore throat
  • The use of naso-gastric tubes
  • Dental procedures
  • Mouth and dental ulcers
  • Oral ulceration due to radiation therapy

When to prescribe Difflam

The Difflam™ range has been found to have gastroprotective effects, 4 and topical administration has not been associated with the gastrointestinal irritation seen with systemic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). 1-4

In addition, Difflam™ has been found to reduce the incidence and severity of postoperative sore throat,5 whilst routine prophylactic use has also been shown to help prevent ulceration and pain during radiotherapy. 7,8 Difflam™ Spray can also be used to treat children of all ages. 2


A Summary of Product Dosage:

Difflam Spray

Difflam™ Spray (30ml)

  • Available on prescription or from the pharmacy
  • Children < 6 years old: 1 puff/4kg body weight, max 4 puffs
  • Children 6–12 years old: 4 puffs
  • Children >12 years old: Repeat dose every 1½ to 3 hours, as necessary.
    Uninterrupted treatment should not exceed 7 days unless under medical supervision.

Difflam™ Sore Throat Rinse (200ml)

  • Available from the pharmacy
  • For adults and children >12 years old: 15ml gargle for 30 seconds 
  • Repeat dose every 1½ to 3 hours, as necessary. Uninterrupted treatment should not exceed 7 days unless under medical supervision.

Difflam™ Oral Rinse (300ml)

  • Available on prescription or from the pharmacy
  • For adults and children >12 years old: 15ml gargle for 30 seconds 
  • Repeat dose every 1½ to 3 hours, as necessary.

For relief from pains and sprains, strains and sports injuries

Each tube of Difflam 3% Cream/ Difflam-P 3% Cream contains Benzydamine Hydrochloride 3% w/w for topical application to skin.


Prescribe Difflam™ 3% Cream and Difflam™- P 3% Cream for a wide range of symptoms associated with painful inflammatory conditions of the musculo-skeletal system, including: 9-10

  • Acute inflammatory disorders such as myalgia and bursitis.
  • Traumatic conditions such as sprains, strains, contusions and the after-effects of fractures.
  • Sore muscles
  • Stiff joints

A Summary of Product Dosage:

Difflam Cream for pain relief

Difflam™- 3% Cream (35g)

  • Available on prescription or from the pharmacy
  • For topical application to skin.
  • Massaged lightly into the affected area. Depending on the size of the site to be treated, 35 0 85 mm should be applied 3 times daily, and at the discretion of the Doctor, up to 3 times daily in more severe conditions.
  • No special dosage recommendations are made for elderly patients.
  • Uninterrupted treatment should not exceed 10 days unless under medical supervision. 
  • Well absorbed through the skin and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and local anaesthetic actions.
Difflam pain relief

Difflam™ 3% Cream (100g)

  • Available on prescription or from the pharmacy 
  • For topical application to skin.
  • Massaged lightly into the affected area. Depending on the size of the site to be treated, 35 0 85 mm should be applied 3 times daily, and at the discretion of the Doctor, up to 3 times daily in more severe conditions.
  • No special dosage recommendations are made for elderly patients.
  • Uninterrupted treatment should not exceed 10 days unless under medical supervision.

Difflam™ Oral Rinse is indicated for the relief of painful inflammatory conditions of the throat including pharyngitis (sore throat). Difflam™ Oral Rinse contains the active ingredient Benzydamine Hydrochloride. The other ingredients are ethanol (96% v/v), glycerol, saccharin sodium BP, mouthwash flavour, 52 503/T, polysorbate 20, methyl hydroxybenzoate quinoline yellow (E104), patent blue V (E131), purified water. 5
